Exclude user groups from a job check
It is often preferable not to have specific groups, OUs, domains or also individual users checked by certain jobs. A common example is the use of whitelists. More important than the detection and subsequent blocking of spam mails is the prevention of so-called false positives: E-mails that are erroneously identified as spam and therefore discarded.
With the help of the iQ.Suite rules, you can quickly and easily exclude known ("good") senders from being checked by your anti-spam job.
The following procedure is suitable for every type of exception rule, regardless of the type or task of the job.
Our task is to configure a job (in the present example an anti-spam job) so that only E-mails from the Internet are processed, with the exception of known, well-disposed sender domains. The condition that only E-mails from the Internet are checked has already been implemented. Now we have to define the exception groups.
First, specify whether you wish to define the sender or the recipient as the exception. In our example, we wish to determine whether the sender corresponds to our requirements (the "good" senders). This condition is checked by means of a mail address rule, which will later be defined as a processing criterion in the job.
Tip: combine sender and recipient conditions in one rule only in exceptional cases!
1. Global mail rules

For all other settings, you can keep the default settings for the rule.
Example 1: two external SMTP sender domains

Example 2: a Domino domain

Example 3: a group from the Domino address book

Example 4: a certifier

Example 5: an individual from the Domino address book

Example 6: an individual in the Internet

Example 7: a combination

- In the second step, open the job for which you wish to define exceptions in editing mode. The job originally has the following appearance:

- Under the "Basics" tab, click the "Select" icon under "Editing of rules" (only visible in editing mode). Select the rule you just created. Click the right arrow button under "negatives".

- The result is as follows:

- Click "OK".
Save the changes.

The processing criteria for this job can be summarized as follows:
Within 30 seconds the MailGrabber will restart and the job will no longer process/check E-mails that fulfill the requirements defined in the rule.
Of course, you can use several rules - also in combination as positive/negative. In this case, make sure that you have selected "All false" so that the job will not run if only one condition listed under the negative rules applies.
Why you have to select this option to achieve the above results, what potential is hidden within the iQ.Suite rules and how you can establish an E-mail policy for your company, can be learned in our trainings.
